We will not tolerate installation of fake chiefs — Togbe Tepre Hodo
The President of the Volta Region House of Chiefs (VRHC), Togbe Tepre Hodo IV, has warned that any group of unruly individuals who install a paramount chief in their area without recourse to the Chieftaincy Act will suffer swift ruthless consequences.
He said that the house would not stand aside and look on unconcerned when a few wayward and disgruntled individuals incited chaos in the name of chieftaincy, just to satisfy their personal and selfish desires.
Togbe Tepre Hodo said this in an interview last Wednesday in reaction to how some individuals calling themselves ‘Concerned Chiefs and Stool Representatives in the Ave-Dakpa Traditional Area’ recently installed a paramount chief under the name “Awomefia Atta Kofi,” in defiance of the incumbent Paramount Chief, Togbe Nyamekor Glakpe V, who is also President of the Ave-Dakpa Traditional Council.
Togbe Tepre Hodo, who is Paramount Chief of Anfoega, pointed out that chieftaincy structures in Ghana were controlled by an Act of Parliament, Act 759 of 2008.
Therefore, any chief who is not covered by that Act of Parliament is not recognised as such.
“Ave-Dakpa has only one paramount chief and that is Togbe Nyamekor Glakpe V, who is also President of the Ave-Dakpa Traditional Council,” he reiterated.
Gazetted
Togbe Tepre Hodo said the name of Togbe Nyamekor Glakpe V was in the register of chiefs at the National House of Chiefs in Kumasi as the gazetted Paramount Chief of Ave-Dakpa.
“So, any other individual who is holding himself out as the paramount chief of Ave-Dakpa is misleading the public and fomenting trouble in the area,” the president of VRHC said.
He said the house would not hesitate to cause the arrest of such troublemakers by the police for appropriate action.
Meanwhile, an opinion leader in Ave-Dakpa, Dumega Mc-Solo Dziwornu-Ziddah, has called on the group calling itself ‘Concerned Chiefs and Stool Representatives of Ave-Dakpa’ to desist from antagonising Togbe Nyamekor Glakpe V for peace to prevail in the area.
He said at a press conference at Ave-Dakpa during the Easter break that Ave-Dakpa needed peace for progress and not worthless and baseless chieftaincy squabbles.
“The earlier we all collaborate with Togbe Nyamekor Glakpe V, the better for the entire Ave-Dakpa,” Mr Dziwornu-Ziddah added.
