Wesley Grammar supports 2 correctional centres

The Management, staff and students of Wesley Grammar School have made a donation of various items to the James Camp Prison and the Senior Correctional Centre, both in Accra.

The items donated, which included footwear, clothing, toiletries and 50 bags of sachet water, formed part of activities marking the school’s 70th anniversary.

The Assistant Headmistress in charge of Domestic Affairs, Yaa Asor-Kyei, on behalf of the headmistress of the school, Barbara Juliet Tekyiwaa Thompson and accompanied by some students, made the presentation on behalf of the school. 

She appreciated the efforts of the officers who work tirelessly to maintain discipline while assisting the inmates to become responsible members of society.

The visit served not only as a charitable outreach but also as an important learning experience for the students, reinforcing the need for good conduct, responsibility, and respect for the laws of the land.

The Senior Correctional Centre, Assistant Superintendent of Prisons Matilda Konkumi, welcomed the delegation on behalf of the service, expressed gratitude for the gesture, stressing the importance of such support.

Briefing the delegation, ASP Konkumi enlightened the students on various offences that could lead young people to come into conflict with the law.

She explained that the minimum punishment for some offences could range from three months to three years, depending on the nature and severity of the offence.

James Camp

At the James Camp Prison, the delegation was received by Deputy Superintendent of Prisons Kwaku Agyemang-Duah, who also expressed appreciation for the gesture and commended the school for remembering the inmates during their significant milestone celebration.

While congratulating them for their 70th anniversary, DSP Konkumi also used the occasion to educate the students were educated on the importance of discipline and law-abiding behaviour, stressing that played a crucial role in keeping people away from trouble and prison.
