“We wish to categorically state that the claim is false,” the statement clarified. “We, therefore, urge the public to disregard it and treat it with the contempt it deserves.”
This comes amid a rise in misinformation and disinformation as the country approaches its general elections on 7th December. The police have increasingly stepped in to address false reports circulating online.
On Wednesday, September 4, the police also debunked claims in a viral video alleging a secret recruitment exercise at the Kumasi Police Training School.
The statement clarified that the individuals seen at the training facility were 487 suspects arrested in connection with the QNET Ponzi scheme and were being screened as part of the investigation process.
As the election season intensifies, the Ghana Police Service has reiterated its commitment to providing accurate information and has asked the public to verify facts before sharing unconfirmed reports.
