Three hundred teachers are to be deployed to Bahamas in 2026 under the existing labour mobility partnership between Ghana and the Bahamas.
In a social media post on Saturday [July 11, 2026], after representing President John Dramani Mahama at the Bahamas’ 53rd Independence anniversary celebration, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa stated the agreement for the 300 was reached after a bilateral meeting with the Prime Minister of the Bahamas, Philip Edward Davis, during which he conveyed a message from President Mahama.
There is an existing labour mobility partnership between Ghana and the Bahamas in the health sector, where Ghanaian nurses are already working under a related arrangement. In October 2025, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed by Ghana and the Bahamas to establish a teacher recruitment initiative.
At the time, both countries said the initiative would begin as a pilot programme, with the possibility of expanding it to areas such as commerce, culture, tourism and human capital development.
