He observed that many leaders serving in government were not God-fearing, which might have contributed to the decline in development.

“Today, in many parts of the world and in our country, societies are not progressing because leaders have left behind their creator,” he stated, adding that if God-fearing attitude were inherent in leaders, society would enjoy positive change to enhance socio-economic development.

The minister was speaking at the 125th anniversary celebration of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church (SDA) at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi.

The programme was organised by the Central Ghana Conference (CGC) and South Central Ghana Conference (SCGC), all with headquarters in Kumasi. The event was on the theme: “125 Years – Proclaiming the Coming King (Revelation 14:6-12)”.

Mr Opoku applauded the church for its provision of quality and holistic education, which to him, had over the years prepared God-fearing people to serve as national leaders.

In the area of health, he also commended the church for the provision of quality and affordable healthcare in the country.

Mr Opoku, however, called on the church not to relent in its efforts to support President John Dramani Mahama and his ruling National Democratic Congress government.

The President of the Ghana Union Conference of the SDA (GUC), Pastor Dr Samuel Adama Larmie, who preached the sermon, called on all church members to proclaim the second coming of “The King”.

He expressed gratitude to the ARCC for its financial support and prayed for the ministers and the government.
