Gold Board donates US$12,724 for six-year-old's bone marrow transplant in India

The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) has provided financial support of US$12,724 to cover the surgery costs of six-year-old Duwaa Afriyie Boakye Addei, who is battling Lymphoblastic Leukemia, the Board has announced.

The assistance followed a formal appeal by the child's father, who indicated that Duwaa has been fighting the illness since December 2025 and was advised by specialists to undergo a bone marrow transplant in India.

In a statement posted on its Facebook page, it said that after conducting the necessary medical verifications with the treating doctors in India, GoldBod approved and disbursed the funds to support the life-saving procedure.

The intervention forms part of the Board’s ongoing Corporate Social Responsibility efforts under its Special Intervention Program Unit, particularly in the areas of health and education.

No further details were provided regarding the timeline of the transplant or the child's current condition. GoldBod did not indicate whether additional support would be provided for post-operative care or travel expenses.
