District Chief Executive

The Gomoa East District Chief Executive (DCE), Mr Isaac Kingsley Ahunu-Armah, stressed the need for the country to recognise the contribution of senior citizens in its forward march.

He noted that a country that did not recognise its heroes was not worth dying for, adding that it was, therefore, appropriate for the country to put aside a day to show appreciation to its elderly citizens.

He indicated that the elderly had a wealth of experience from which the young generation could tap and called on the the elderly to make their knowledge and experiences available to the youth to learn from them.

He urged the elderly to bring their expertise to bear on the development of the country.

Members of Parliament

The Member of Parliament (MP) for Gomoa Central, Mrs Rachel Florence Appoh Opoku, commended the senior citizens for their efforts during their active working days that had culminated in the forward march of the country.

She noted that there was a breakdown of discipline among the youth and called on them to help reduce indiscipline in society.

She added that the government, through the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection, had rolled out a policy to register people above 70 years onto the National Health Insurance Scheme.

The MP for Gomoa East, Mr Ekow Panyin Okyere, said although the country was currently facing some economic challenges, it was not peculiar to only Ghana, stressing that all countries in the world were facing similar challenges.

He assured the elderly that the difficulties they were going through were temporary and urged them to rally behind the government to overcome the economic challenges.
