Gonja Traditional Council appeals to Forestry Commission

The Paramount Chief of the Gonja Traditional Area, Yagbonwura Tutumba Boresa Essa, has appealed to the Forestry Commission to demarcate portions of the Damongo Game Reserve for farming purposes.

He noted that such a decision would not only encourage more people to engage in farming activities for increased food production and incomes but would help to protect the reserve where the Mole National Park is also situated, from encroachers.

According to the chief, some portions of the reserve belonged to the traditional council in the area and that preventing the people from farming was depriving them of their livelihoods since agriculture was their major vocation.

The Yagbonwura made the appeal when members of the Forestry Commission (FC) paid a courtesy call on the Gonja traditional Council to confer with them on how best to effectively manage the forest reserves to the benefit of the two institutions. The 11-member board was led by its chairman, Mr Eddy Prah.
