Government secures special Independence Day data bundle for Ghanaians on Independence Day

The government has secured a special Independence Day data bundle package for Ghanaians, offering a significant boost in internet access at a reduced cost, the Minister of Communication, Digital Technology & Innovations has announced.

Under the directive of President John Dramani Mahama, the ministry has reached an agreement with the country’s three major telecom providers—MTN Ghana, Telecel Ghana, and AT Ghana—to offer a GH₵10 bundle that provides 6GB of data, a massive increase from the usual 1GB at the same price.

This is also an improvement on previous holiday promotions, which typically provided 3GB for GH₵10.

Announcing the initiative on social media, the Minister described it as a demonstration of the government’s commitment to digital transformation and affordability.

“This highlights our commitment as a government to build the enablers for a truly digitalised Ghana that offers the vast opportunity of the interconnected world to Ghanaians right in the comfort of their homes,” the Minister stated.

The move is expected to enhance digital access for millions of Ghanaians, allowing for affordable connectivity in an era where internet access is crucial for education, business, and communication.

The Minister also disclosed that the Ministry of Communications will outline short, medium, and long-term plans aimed at achieving a sustained reduction in data prices across the country.

This announcement comes at a time when Ghanaians have consistently called for lower data costs, as internet affordability remains a key issue in expanding access to digital services and e-commerce opportunities.
