Health Walk held to promote Made-in-Ghana
Scores of Ghanaians last Saturday joined to promote President John Mahama’s call on the citizenry to patronise made-in-Ghana goods in a 10-kilometre health walk through some principal streets in the central business district of Accra.

Dubbed “Republic Day Health Walk,” the event attracted ministers of state, Members of Parliament and other dignitaries.
It was organised by the El-wak Keep Fit Club, together with other keep fit clubs in Accra, and attracted participants from Benin and Togo.
The participants, accompanied by a brass band, began the walk from the Black Star Square through the John Atta Mills High Street and some major streets in the city.
Chief of Staff
When they re-converged on the Black Star Square after the walk, the Chief of Staff, Mr Prosper Bani, who represented President Mahama, commended the participants and urged them to demonstrate similar commitment in promoting indigenous products.
He called on Ghanaians to exercise regularly to be healthy, adding that a healthy nation required a healthy people.
Mr Bani presented a brand new 33-seater Hyundai bus on behalf of President Mahama to the El-wak Keep Fit Club in response to a request the club made to the President last year.
Sports Minister
The Minister of Youth and Sports, Mr Mahama Ayariga observed that the bright prospects of the country depended on what its citizens consumed and added that “today we walked in defiance of statements describing our goods as inferior.”

He said the health walk was held across the country and he urged Ghanaians to buy and consume made-in-Ghana goods.
The minister of sports said he was in talks with the Health Minister and the Chief Executive Officer of the National Health Insurance Scheme to launch a national campaign to promote keep fit clubs in the country.
Mr Ayariga expressed the conviction that promoting such a venture would go a long way to reduce expenditure on national health.
