‘Help build temples for deprived communities’
The District Pastor of the Assemblies of God Church in the Gbawe-Ablekuma District has called on the church members to help in the construction of temples for the church’s branches in deprived areas.
Twenty-one Assemblies of God churches fall under the Gbawe-Ablekuma District but some of them are located in deprived communities, hence the new District Pastor, Reverend Charles Koomson, has encouraged members to voluntarily use their skills to nurture all the churches to enable them to grow at the same pace.
“I will be calling on painters, carpenters and other artisans to voluntarily join hands and serve in missionary work in the construction of places of worship,” he said.
Rev. Koomson made these statements after he was inducted into office as the first District Pastor of the Gbawe-Ablekuma District of the church in Accra.
The Head of the Miracle Life Assemblies of God Church at New Oduman, Rev. Leo Habada, was also inducted into office as the District Secretary; while the Head of the Freedom Temple of the Assemblies of God at Olebu, Rev. Sampson Mensah, was inducted into office as the District Treasurer.
The three will serve for a four-year term.
Rev. Koomson expressed gratitude to God for His mercy, and to the congregants for the faith they reposed in him and his executives.
Spelling out his vision, he said his familiarisation visits to the 21 churches in the Gbawe-Ablekuma District showed that some of the churches were struggling in deprived communities and worshipped in tents and classrooms.
He also said to overcome the challenge, members in the district had to unite and pool their resources and skills to construct churches to the glory of God.
Rev. Koomson added that the spiritual development of all pastors in the district, as well as the welfare of all Assemblies of God members would also be goals of the executives during their tenure.
Induction
The Regional Secretary of the Greater Accra Assemblies of God, Rev. Ernest Birikorang who was the guest preacher, in his sermon, encouraged Christians to not lose hope during difficult times.
He said God provided solutions in trying circumstances, thus when life seemed to be full of challenges at every turn, God was also ready with solutions.
Rev. Birikorang, basing his message on Joshua 6:1-6, 20, said like the walls of Jericho which fell, challenges that Christians faced would fall when they, with the right attitudes of consistency, assurance of God's provision, salvation and obedience continued in the grace of God.
Inducting Rev. Charles Koomson, who heads the House of Mercy Assemblies of God at Agape, into office, Rev. Birikorang charged congregants to submit to the spiritual and just authority of the district pastor and his executives.
