Home Economics Association emphasises healthy living

The 41st annual general conference of the Ghana Home Economics Association (GHEA) has been held in Kumasi in the Ashanti Region on the theme, “Empowering individual families and communities through Home Economics: Health through clean cooking”.

The four-day conference, which also marked the launching of the Homecming of the association, was aimed at promoting the teaching and learning of Home Economics in schools to enhance nutrition, house management and social service, as well as promote the use of LPG to reduce environmental pollution.

Delivering the welcome address, the president of the association, Ms Eunice Antiaye, said the objective of the GHEA was to partner government and other educational institutions to sensitise the public, especially Home Economics students, to embrace the teaching and practice of Home Economics to promote good nutrition and quality of health in the country. 

She said society needed to do away with bad home management in order to reduce diseases and other health related issues. 

The Executive Member of Ghana Alliance for Clean Cook Stoves, Mr Nicholas Manu, said the GHEA had a major role to play in sensitising the public to proper nutrition and healthy lifestyles.
