I can’t live in harmony with criminals—Martin Amidu

There was spontaneous laughter at the sitting of Parliament’s Appointments Committee vetting the nomination of Mr Martin Amidu as Special Prosecutor, when he suggested his very nature would not permit that he lives in harmony with criminals.

“I have lived in harmony with decent people for 66 years. I can’t live in harmony with criminals,” he said in response to concerns that he looks too aggressive and vindictive for the post he has accepted to occupy.

The Member of Parliament (MP) for Tamale North constituency, Mr Alhassan Sayibu Suhuyini, who sought to find out whether Mr. Amidu would not be vindictive against those he writes about or criticizes in his articles, Mr Amidu said he will only deal with corrupt people and that corrupt acts have no party colouration.

According to him, crimes should be separated from party politics or any other considerations and deal with perpetrators in order to fight the canker of corruption in the country.

Mr Amidu said he was hopeful he would be given the nod to fight corrupt practices that siphon state resources and deny the ordinary citizen the opportunity to benefit from the national cake, telling the committee members that given his pedigree, President Akufo-Addo made the best choice for the country.
