IGP promotes 17 officers after GH¢1m drug seizure and illegal arms recovery
Seventeen police officers have been promoted by the Inspector General of Police, Mr Christian Tetteh Yohuno, following their roles in separate operations that led to the seizure of suspected narcotic drugs and the recovery of illegal firearms.
The promotions were carried out on Tuesday January 27, 2026, after internal assessments of the officers’ conduct during the operations, according to the Ghana Police Service.
In one operation at Ho in the Volta Region, officers intercepted 10 wrapped slabs of substances suspected to be cocaine, together with sacks believed to contain other narcotic drugs.
The suspected cocaine has an estimated street value of GH¢1,032,650.
Another operation took place at Jacobu, where officers on routine patrol recovered an AK-47 rifle, a pump action gun, and eight rounds of live AAA ammunition.
Mr Yohuno, together with members of the Police Management Board, congratulated the officers on their promotion and acknowledged their conduct during the operations.
He said the advancement came with added responsibility and urged the officers to maintain discipline, courage, and professional conduct in the course of their duties.
Mr Yohuno also encouraged other personnel of the Service to remain diligent in their work, noting that integrity and consistent performance formed the basis for recognition and promotion within the Ghana Police Service.
The Police Service said the promotions formed part of efforts to reward merit while strengthening the fight against drug trafficking and the spread of illegal firearms across the country.
