Indian women donate to flood, fire victims

The Indian Women Association of Ghana (IWA) has donated relief items worth GH¢30,000 to the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) to support victims of the June 3 twin-tragedy.

The items, which were presented on behalf of the Indian community in Ghana and the Indian Association, included bags of sugar, six bags of maize, four bags of beans, two bags each of gari, and salt and 10 gallons of cooking oil.


Others were 10 cartoons of matches, five cartoons of assorted medicines, two bales each of clothing and bedsheets, blankets and towels, 200 pieces each of buckets, plates, and cups, 50 big basins, 120 mattresses and 500 bags of sachet water.

Condolences


The President of the association, Mrs Surinder Cheema, presented the items and said they were touched by the plight of the flood and fire victims, hence the gesture. She said she was hopeful the items would go a long way to alleviate their suffering.


She also extended the association’s heartfelt condolences to the affected victims of the flood and fire disaster.


The Director in charge of Relief and Reconstruction, NADMO, Mr Gavivina Yao Tamakloe, received the items on behalf of the organisation and expressed his appreciation to the association for the kind gesture. He also appealed to individuals, associations and corporate bodies to emulate such examples to bring relief and comfort to the victims.
