
Islamic burial for 2 victims of Adansi Akrofuom helicopter crash set for Sunday
Two of the eight victims of the military helicopter crash at Adansi Akrofuom in the Ashanti Region will be buried on Sunday, August 10, in line with Islamic customs that require prompt interment.
The funeral planning committee announced that the arrangements are for the late Dr Ibrahim Mohammed Murtala, Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, and Alhaji Muniru Limuna Mohammed, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator, both of whom were Muslim.
“The President of the Republic of Ghana, the Vice President, Speaker of Parliament, the National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Yogbun Wura and Ndan Ya Naa, the National Chief Imam and Leader of the Ambariya Sunni Group, alongside the families of the deceased, announce the burial rites in accordance with Islamic tradition, customs, and practices,” the committee said.
According to the statement, Jannaza prayers will be held at 2:00 pm at the Forecourt of the State House in Accra, followed by burial at 2:30 pm at the Military Cemetery, also in Accra.
The government and the families of the deceased have invited the public to participate in the prayers and burial to honour the fallen public servants.
Chief of Staff Julius Debrah earlier confirmed that the crash, which occurred on Wednesday, August 6, claimed the lives of Defence Minister Dr Edward Omane Boamah; Dr Murtala Mohammed; former Ashanti Regional Minister Dr Samuel Sarpong; Alhaji Muniru Limuna Mohammed; and Samuel Aboagye, a former MP and National Vice Chairman of the NDC.
Three Ghana Armed Forces personnel — Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Mane-Twum Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah — also died in the incident.
