Jacob’s Well donates to Wa Hospital

Ghana’s branch of Jacob’s Well Appeal, an international non-governmental organisation (NGO), has donated assorted items worth GH¢552,000 to the Wa Regional Hospital in the Upper West Region.

The items included drugs and medical equipment, and were presented through the former Upper West Regional Minister, Mr Bede Ziedeng, at a short ceremony at the hospital. He described the gesture as “very welcome and a big boost to health delivery efforts in the region.”

Mr Ziedeng said the region considered itself  “a deprived region that was always in need. The Wa Regional Hospital needs support to grow. We are grateful for this donation, but we will always need more,” he said.

He appealed to the rank and file of the medical profession to accept postings to the region to help bridge the wide gap in the doctor-patient ratio there.

Madam Sandra Scantlebury, Country Director of Jacob’s Well Appeal Ghana, said she hoped the items, which were shipped in two 40-foot containers from the United Kingdom, would fill a void in drugs and equipment supply in the hospital.

Jacob’s Well Appeal Ghana has been in operation since 2010 as a development charity. The organisation is guided by principles of the Christian faith.

The NGO is based in Nadowli in the Upper West Region but works all over the country. Besides the Wa Regional Hospital, the NGO has also donated medical items to the Tamale Regional Hospital in the Northern Region and the 37 Military Hospital in Accra.

Madam Scantlebury said the NGO provided humanitarian assistance and support activities by implementing projects that are in line with locally assessed needs. It also provides micro-credit facilities and is in the business of sinking boreholes.
