Ken Kuranchie asserts Prof Ameyaw-Akumfi's innocence amid NIB probe

Mr. Ken Kuranchie, the legal counsel for Prof. Christopher Ameyaw-Akumfi, has strongly defended his client’s innocence following his detention by the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) yesterday.

Prof. Ameyaw-Akumfi, former Board Chairman of the Public Procurement Authority, is under investigation for financial matters related to his tenure as Board Chairman of the Ghana Infrastructural Investment Fund (GIIF). The probe specifically focuses on financial approvals made during his time at GIIF.

While details of the case remain undisclosed, Kuranchie emphasized the importance of legal due process and reiterated his client’s innocence.

Speaking to Citi News, Kuranchie stated, “Investigations have just started, so let us wait and see what turns out next. My client is innocent. He is innocent of absolutely all charges. But we shall see; let the government build its case.”

According to Kuranchie, Prof. Ameyaw-Akumfi was at home on Sunday morning when a group of men in three pickup vehicles arrived and informed him that he was needed at the NIB.

He voluntarily complied and was taken to the NIB head office before being moved to the NIB offices in Kawukudi, Accra.

Kuranchie reiterated that the investigation revolves around financial matters during Prof. Ameyaw-Akumfi’s time as board chairman at GIIF, particularly certain approvals made during his tenure.
