The rest are Mr Francis Ackon-Boadu and Mr Benard Badu-Acquah, both accountants, as members.

Swearing in of board members

Ms Mercy Pamela Quarshie, a retired educationist and former Assistant Headmistress of the Mfantsiman Girls Senior High School at Saltpond, swore in the board.

She advised the trustees of the education fund to eschew favouritism when it came to selecting its beneficiaries.

“Be guided by the over-riding principle of the Kojo Baiden Education Fund, which is that the beneficiary has shown academic brilliance and is needy and so must be assisted to school in order to persue his dreams of being useful to himself/ herself and the society,” Ms Quashie said.

The chairman for the inaugural ceremony was Mr George Apotae Addae, a Deputy Director  of Education and the Head of the Business Department of the Assin Manso Senior High School in the Central Region.

He charged the board of trustees to undertake intensive fundraising to make the fund financially strong always so that beneficiaries could be supported continuously.

The ceremony was attended mostly by Catholics because the founder of the education fund is Reverend Father  Benjamin Baiden, who is the parish priest of the Ajumako Bisease St Micheal  Catholic Parish.

Rev. Fr. Baiden established the  fund last year in memory of his father, Opanyin Kojo Baiden, during the 10th anniversary of his priestly ordination at Twifo Praso.

For  a start, the fund would cater for beneficiaries from Twiffo  Atti-Mkwaa, his home district, and Ajumako Enyan-Essiam District, where he works.

Board supports seven schools

In a related development , immediately after their inauguration Friday,  the board of trustees of the Kojo Baiden Education Fund  donated 6,000 exercise books, 6,000 pens, 6,000 pencils and other items to seven schools in the two beneficiary districts.

The schools are Ajumako Bisease, Ajumako  Ochiso and Ajumako Catholic Basic schools in the Ajumako-Enyan –Esiam  District; and Twifo Damang Catholic Basic , Twifo Praso Catholic Primary, Twifo Praso B&C Junior High School and Twifo Praso District Assembly Basic schools.

On behalf of the beneficiary schools, the Headmistress of the Ajumako Catholic School , Ms Theresa Assinfuah-Nunoo, thanked the board of trustees, saying “ we shall forever be grateful to you and our prayer is that the Kojo Baiden Education Fund shall grow from strength to strength to assist our schools and pupils.”.
