This followed a tip off to the police that some armed robbers had hidden the guns there and were preparing for an operation later in the evening.
Ambush
Briefing the press, the Regional Commander of Police, DCOP Mr Kofi Boakye, said following up on the information, the police went to the place and laid ambush for the suspected armed robbers.
However, he said, while they were there, the bush caught fire and the ammunitions started exploding.
He said the police doused the fire to enable them retrieve the arms.
He said however, that some of the arms were destroyed by the fire.
Admonition
DCOP Boakye advised people with illegal arms to voluntarily hand them over to the police before they caught up with them.
He said following the arm haul made last weekend, there was renewed confidence of the residents in the service and that people have started volunteering information to the police.
