Let’s relive Nkrumah’s vision — Kojo Yankah

The Founder of the African University College of Communications (AUCC), Mr Kojo Yankah, has stated that the vision of Dr Kwame Nkrumah has not been properly utilised.

According to him, successive governments ignored the ideas and visions of the former president.

Mr Yankah made this observation in an interview with the Daily Graphic at a cocktail night organised for nominees of the Osagyefo Kwame Nkrumah African Genius Awards in Accra last Wednesday.

Osagyefo awards

The Osagyefo Kwame Nkrumah African Genius Awards scheme is an initiative intended to transform lives, acknowledge African creative intellect, develop indigenous technologies and empower Africans to believe in themselves.  The event is slated for Friday, December 12, 2014 at the National Theatre.  It is also to honour outstanding Ghanaian achievers who have contributed their quota to the development of Ghana and the world at large, and continue to do so.

The areas of recognition are: Entrepreneurship, agriculture, technology and innovation, information technology, governance, religion, medicine, engineering, architecture, film and drama, dance, writing, visual arts, design and innovation in traditional leadership.

Reliving Nkrumah’s vision

He said Ghana was not reliving the vision of Nkrumah because the governments that came after him had their own plans.

He explained that leaders wanted to pursue their own agenda to prove to the electorates that they could deliver on their promises. “Each leader wants his ideas to overcome the other’s.  This attitude does not promote development of the nation,” he added.

He urged the government to consider and implement some, if not all, of the ideas of Nkrumah, since that would promote  development.
