‘Let’s support children with special needs’

The Chief Executive Officer of Breast Care International, Dr (Mrs) Beatrice Wiafe Addai, has called on Ghanaians not to neglect Special Schools but give them adequate support to educate children with special needs.

According to her, defects in students in such institutions did not come not through the fault of children, so there was the need for society to help them acquire knowledge and skills for their development.

Dr Wiafe Addai said this when she presented items worth GH₵5,000 to the Akropong School for the Blind at Akropong in the Eastern Region.

The items included 10 bags of rice, three gallons of oil, three cartons of tomatoes, two boxes of mackerel and sacks of toilet rolls.

Dr Wiafe Addai noted that the students of the school asked questions at a breast cancer awareness programme at the Presbyterian University College, and she was very touched, hence the support.

“In times like this, we should think about the vulnerable in the society and help them,” she said.

The Headmistress of the school, Ms Mahela Narh, who received the items, thanked Breast Care for the support.

She promised that the items would be used for their intended purposes.

She deplored the attitude of some parents who neglected their responsibility of providing support for their children in the school.
