Man in court for possessing 'wee’ in banku

A man has been remanded by the Accra Circuit Court for allegedly having in his possession narcotic drugs concealed in two balls of banku.

Mohammed Abass is said to have hidden four wrappers of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp and five tramadol 225 tablets in the banku to be given to a suspect in police custody.

Abass pleaded not guilty to the offence of possessing narcotic drugs when he appeared before the court, presided over by Mr Aboagye Tandoh.

The case has been adjourned to December 11, 2017.

Presenting the facts, the prosecutor, Chief Inspector (C/I) Victor Dosoo, said  on November 22, 2017 about 6:30 p.m., the complainant, a policeman stationed at Jamestown, was on duty at the charge office with two colleagues when Abass  brought in the banku to be given to a suspect in police custody.

According to the prosecutor,  when the food was examined by the complainant  four wrappers of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp and five tablets of tramadol 225 were found concealed in it.

 C/I Dosoo, however, said Abass  failed to disclose his source of supply to the police.

  He said when Abass was interrogated, he said it was given to him by a man he met at Akoto Lante, a suburb of Accra, to be given to the suspect in police custody.

The exhibits are yet to be taken to the forensic laboratory for examination.
