Kofi Kwao, a porter, who is said to have attacked the victim, Claudia Odoi, for using his house as a thoroughfare, is to reappear on April 1, 2015.

He appeared before the Amasaman Magistrate Court, presided over by Mr Frank Gbeddy.

He is standing trial on charges of murder and causing harm. His plea was not taken.

Another man stabbed

Prosecuting, Inspector Fredner Awuah Ansah told the court that the victim, Kwao’s neighbour,  was killed at about 10 a.m. on January 17, 2015, while attempting to walk through Kwao’s house.

Mr Ansah said Kwao also stabbed a man, identified only as Ibrahim, who came to Odoi’s  rescue.

Residents who heard Odoi’s screams could not save her as Kwao threatened to kill anyone who tried to rescue her.

They looked on  as Kwao stabbed Odoi multiple times until Ibrahim and another man, yet to be identified, mustered the courage and tried to disarm Kwao.

Mr Ansah, who tendered a kitchen knife, which was sharp on both edges as exhibit, told the court it was retrieved from Kwao.

Facts of the case

The court heard that Odoi lived with her uncle at Manhean and had been sent by her uncle’s wife to fetch water in the neighbourhood but when she approached Kwao’s house, he warned her not to walk through his house.

The two were said to have exchanged words until Odoi ignored his warning and walked through the house.

Kwao, who got offended, chased Odoi with a kitchen knife and caught up with her a few metres from his house where he stabbed her.

Some ‘Good Samaritans’ took Claudia to the Amasaman Government Hospital, where she was pronounced dead on arrival.

The body has since been deposited at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital for autopsy.
