Men advised to embrace responsibilities
The Amakomhene, Nana Adu Mensah Asare II, has advised men, considered as the head of the family, to live up to their roles of ensuring the proper training and well-being of members of their families.

At a special thanksgiving mass to commemorate this year’s Father’s Day at the St Paul’s Catholic Church at Amakom in Kumasi, Nana Asare wondered why some men, after giving birth to children, left them to fend for themselves and turned round to describe such children as “bad children” when they refused to take care of their fathers in their old age.
He attributed the increasing numbers in delinquency in society to what he described as irresponsible parenthood, especially on the part of men, and appealed to men to, as a matter of urgency, ensure that they provide the needs of their family members, especially their children, so that they could grow to be responsible people for the benefit of society.
The youth council of the church used the occasion, which appreciated men for their contribution towards the well-being of their families, to perform a drama that showed how men could manage their homes to bring peace and development to the family and the nation as a whole.
Exemplary lives
Nana Asare also asked parents to lead exemplary lives for their children to emulate since children learnt good and bad behaviours from people around them, especially from the home and learning environment.
A former President of the church, Mr Thomas Kofi Boamah, urged men to desist from sacking their delinquent children from home and rather draw them closer through prayers and counselling.
He also urged men to strive hard to lead righteous lives for their children to emulate.
An Assistant Parish Priest of the church, Rev. Fr Joseph Osei-Tutu, lamented the low publicity that heralded the cerebration of Father’s Day as compared to Mother’s Day, and attributed the situation to the behaviour of some men that had created a negative image about them.

The occasion was used to honour the Amakomhene, who is a parishioner, and 26 other men for their roles, support and active participation and development of the Amakom St Paul’s Catholic Church.
In another development, Salome Donkor reports from Accra that the Minister in charge of the Most Holy Local Congregation of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Rev. Aboagye Dankwa, advised men to use the occasion to rise up and do more towards the realisation of their roles and responsibilities.
Preaching the sermon at the Anointed One Congregation at Sakumono, near Tema to mark Men’s Sunday and Father’s Day, he said anointed men were needed for God’s ministry and for them to serve as the head of the church and in their respective homes.
