Metro Mass workers commend government

The Staff Unions of Metro Mass Transit Limited (MMTL), under the General Transport, Petroleum and Chemical Workers Union (GTPCWU) of TUC, have expressed appreciation to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for his support at revamping operations of the company.

A press statement issued in Accra Friday, December 4, 2020 said following the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic which impacted on the operations of the MMTL, the government responded to their distress call and assisted the company in many diverse ways.

The statement also expressed appreciation to the Managing Director of the MMTL, Mr Albert Adu Boahen, and the Minister of Transport, Mr Kweku Ofori Asiamah, for their tireless efforts in the resuscitation process of the company.

“Our appreciation also goes to Members of Parliament (MPs) who backed the two contract agreements between the Government of Ghana and VDL Bus Roeselare N.V. of Belgium for an amount of €23,776,703 for the supply of 100 intercity VDL buses for the Metro Mass Transit Limited,” the statement added.

Furthermore, the statement said the deal, which included the supply of spare parts, tools and technical assistance and training services, would enable the company to become even more effective and efficient at serving difficult-to-reach areas and to ensure that people had reliable, safe and affordable transport optioAns.

The statement expressed the hope that the government would continue to support MMTL as it embarked on aggressive fleet renewal programmes aimed at replacing the current old fleet.

The statement also gave an assurance that workers of the company would reciprocate the kind gesture by working assiduously and conscientiously to maintain the great state asset for the good people of Ghana.
