Shooting
The Spokesperson for the Northern Regional Police Command, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Mr Mohammed Yussif Tanko, who confirmed the shooting incident, said unidentified gunmen who were riding on two motorbikes attacked traders and some residents at the Nanjon No.1 market centre in the Bunkpurugu-Yunyoo District last Sunday evening.
According to the police, the unidentified gunmen shot indiscriminately into the people, killing two during the attack. Ten others sustained injuries but two of the injured persons who were on admission died at the Bindi Hospital, bringing the death toll to four.
Mr Tanko could not immediately give any reason for the attack but said investigations were ongoing to arrest the perpetrators.
Although there had been some skirmishes in Yunyoo in recent times, leading to sporadic gunshots in the area, Nanjon No. 1 had remained peaceful until Sunday’s shooting incident.
The earlier shooting incident was as a result of a disagreement over the siting of the capital of a proposed district.
