Minister hands over computers to Tamale ILGS

The Minister of Roads and Highways, Alhaji Inusah Fuseini, has handed over 20 flat screen desk top computers and accessories to the Institute of Local Government Studies (ILGS) campus in Tamale to enhance academic and research work of students of the institute.

The presentation was made in response to a request made to the minister, who is also the Member of Parliament (MP) for Tamale Central,to support the ILGS campus in Tamale to enhance teaching and learning at the institute.

The institute offers Master’s programmes in Local Government, Environmental and Sanitation Studies.

Speaking at a presentation ceremony held at the campus of the ILGS in Tamale, Alhaji Fuseini said he communicated the request for support to the Ghana Investment for Electronic Communication (GIFEC), which in turn provided the computers.

Gesture

He said the gesture formed part of his contributions to support the institute to produce graduates who would be well equipped to stand the competition on the job market in line with poverty mitigating strategies of the north.

Alhaji Fuseini spoke about the importance of education, and said as a beneficiary of the educational system, he would continue to support all efforts aimed at promoting education in his home region, the Northern Region, and Ghana as a whole.

Gratitude
The Deputy Director of the ILGS, Tamale campus, Mr Richard D. Kambootah, who received the computers on behalf of the institute, expressed his gratitude to the minister for the support.

He said the computers would go a long way to sustain and enhance e-learning and e- governance at the institute, as well as enhance the research work of students.

Mr Kambootah disclosed that plans were far advanced to set up a computer resource centre at the institute and called for support from philanthropists and corporate organisations to enable the institute to establish the centre to promote the teaching and learning of Information, Communication Technology (ICT) at the institute.
