Mobile medical team treats Ahanta West residents

More than 600 residents of the Ahanta West District in the Western Region were last Monday treated of various illnesses free of charge when Onuado, the mobile clinic operated by the Ministry of Health, arrived in the district.

The team included doctors who are into dental, ear and throat and eye care and general medical services.

The Western Regional Director of Health Services, Dr Atsu Dordor, said the first deployment of the four vans went well and that after Ahanta West, the team would move to Tarkwa.

The deputy director said in all, a total of 39 people had severe tooth-caries, 57 with ear and throat problems, 187 with eye problems and 312 with general medical problems.

Free service

Dr Dordor said the consultation and the medication were both free and that the only time the beneficiaries had to pay with their national health insurance was when they were referred to other medical facilities.

“Aside the Onuado, we also had onboard a mobile pharmacy with pharmacists who supplied the medicine prescribed by the doctors,” he said.

“I must say that the arrival of the vans has actually helped in giving medical attention to the people, with specialists ready to support,” he added.

No challenge & turnout

Dr Dordor said the turnout was big and “we were not able to take care of everybody, since the numbers were large, but we managed to finish those we registered. The programme started early in the morning and continued until late,” he said.

He said the medical team took the time off to actually offer advice to patients on what was wrong with them and the need to lead a healthy lifestyle.

Communities

When the Daily Graphic arrived at the venue, those who had trooped to the place expressed their happiness about the medical team, especially the specialists.
