Mohammed Abdul-Salam appointed Acting CEO of NLA after Sammi Awuku resignation

President John Dramani Mahama has appointed Mohammed Abdul-Salam as the acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the National Lottery Authority (NLA).

The appointment, effective January 15, 2025, was made in line with Article 195 (1) of the 1992 Constitution and Section 45(1) of the National Lotto Act, 2006 (Act 722).

Abdul-Salam’s role remains interim, pending advice from the NLA Board in consultation with the Public Services Commission.

He is currently the Northern Regional Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

In an official communication from Jubilee House signed by the Secretary to the President, Callistus Mahama, Ph.D., Abdul-Salam was formally congratulated and wished success in his new role.

This development follows the resignation of Sammi Awuku, whose tenure at the NLA began under the administration of former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

Awuku on Tuesday, January 13, 2025 submitted his resignation letter, citing his recent election as Member of Parliament for Akuapem North in the Eastern Region as the reason for stepping down.

Awuku, who previously served as the National Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), expressed his commitment to dedicating more time to his parliamentary duties and serving the people of Akuapem North.

The transition comes at a pivotal moment for the NLA, with stakeholders anticipating Abdul-Salam’s leadership to build upon existing reforms and navigate the challenges of the lottery sector in Ghana.
