Monday, Oct 6 is public holiday

The Vice President, Mr Kwesi Bekoe Amissah-Arthur, acting as President, has by Executive Instrument declared Monday, October 6, as a statutory public holiday.

A statement issued in Accra by Mr Mark Owen Woyongo, Minister of the Interior, said the public holiday was to mark Eid-ul-Adha, which falls on Saturday, October 4, 2014.

It said the Vice President had, accordingly, declared Monday October 6, 2014, as a statutory public holiday.

Eid al-Adha meaning "Festival of the sacrifice" is an Islamic festival to commemorate the willingness of Ibrahim also known as Abraham to follow Allah's command to sacrifice his son Ishmael.

Muslims around the world observe the event.
