Naadu Mills donates bibles to five SHSs
A former First Lady, Mrs Ernestina Naadu Mills, has stated that the only way for the youth to live a functional life was for them to commit to the regular reading of the Holy Bible.
Addressing students from five senior high schools in separate visits, she said “Our lives will be most enriched when we devote ourselves to the regular reading and study of the Bible-God’s Word”.
The schools were the Sunyani SHS, Bole SHS, Bolga Girls’ SHS, Tamale Girls’ SHS and Wa SHS.
The First Lady SHS Students Bible Project
The former first lady visited the schools to distribute free bibles to the students under the First Lady SHS Students Bible Project.
The project, which is an initiative of Mrs Ernestina Naadu Mills, is to encourage SHS students, especially, to read the Bible.
Under the project, an estimated 500,000 SHS students in the country are to receive free copies of the Bible. It is being distributed at a cost of GH¢10 million.
Why the distribution of free bibles
Mrs Mills said the decision was taken when the late President John Evans Atta Mills, her husband, was a presidential candidate who prayed, “Lord God, give us Ghana so that we will give Ghana back to you”.
“The project has become a reality and it is to me, one of our humble contributions in bringing young people back to God and His Word,” she said.
According to Mrs Mills, encouraging and inspiring people to read the Bible was her greatest passion and service, adding “Last year in my time of pain and pressures, the Bible, God’s Word, remained my most important source of comfort and solace”.
Advice to the youth
Mrs Mills advised the youth to refrain from immoral acts that had the tendency to hinder their success and blessing. She warned them against fornication, lies and deceit, describing those acts as “blessing blockers”.
Mrs Mills also said since the future development of every nation depended largely on the youth, it would be suicidal for them to neglect God.
"If you will devote yourself to learn about Jesus Christ and develop a personal relationship with Him, it will be of great profit to you. You will gain wisdom and understanding from the Bible which you cannot get anywhere else, “she advised.
According to her, encouraging and inspiring people to read the Bible was her greatest passion.
She said her conviction of the Bible as being the most useful in all matters of life had been the motivation for embarking on the bible project.
