Known in private life as Mr Harrison Nii Armarh Amarteifio, Nii Amartey is a businessman and consultant in construction.

Henceforth, Nii Amartey would be presiding over the Okaiman stool, stretching from Lapaz to Tabora, Israel and its surrounding areas.

He took over from an acting Chief, Dzasetse Nii Adjedu I, who served as the custodian of the stool as demanded by the Ga tradition.

The induction

The installation was preceded by pouring of libation by an elder of the council, Nii Teiko, at the Asere Mantse Palace in Accra yesterday.

The event was in three stages: the swearing of oath, slaughtering of a sheep and acknowledgement by Nii Amartey of the kingmakers and the acting Chief of the Asere Traditional Authority, Nii Amarkai, who is also the Dzasetse of Asere.

The Akwarshongtse, Nii Blaase, swore in three asafoatses (warrior chiefs) and two asafoanyes (warrior queens) for Okaiman.

They were Asafoatse Boi I, Asafoatse Laryea I, Asafoatse Dade Awale I, Asafoanye Naa Amorkor I and Asafoanye Amerle of Kaneshie.

The Odorkor Official Town Mantse, Nii Adama I, inducted Nii Amartey and two Okaiman queens, Naa Ameley Nsenye I, and Naa Aso Okaiman I.

The occasion was climaxed with the playing of obonu (talking drum) amid merrymaking.

Commendation

In his speech, Nii Amarkai congratulated the new chief and his team on their installation.

He implored them to focus on developing the area and cautioned them to be wary when dealing with land issues.

He entreated the chief and his entourage to defend the land at the cost of their lives.

The new Chief of Okaiman, Nii Amartey, pledged to defend the stool and appealed to the kingmakers to guide him in uplifting Okaiman in the interest of the Ga State and Ghana at large.

He promised to provide leadership for the people and develop a five-year development plan to address the infrastructural challenges of the area.
