New GIADEC CEO confident in aluminium industry’s role in Ghana’s economic recovery
The Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Integrated Aluminium Development Corporation (GIADEC), Mr Reindorf Twumasi Ankrah, has expressed confidence in Ghana’s Integrated Aluminium Industry (IAI) as a major driver of economic growth.
Speaking at a staff durbar organised to officially welcome him, Mr Twumasi Ankrah reaffirmed his commitment to building on the progress made by his predecessor and strengthening GIADEC’s role in developing the entire aluminium value chain.
“The integrated aluminium industry is a strategic national project, and if fully developed, it can contribute over $2 billion to the economy. That is an opportunity that deserves the attention of any government. My immediate priority will be to develop every aspect of the aluminium value chain to fully harness this potential,” he said.
Mr Twumasi Ankrah added that President John Mahama’s vision is to industrialise the economy and create jobs by making full use of Ghana’s natural resources. He also emphasised the need to ensure that host communities benefit from the mines and refineries that will be established.

“We will strengthen the relationships we have built with chiefs and local communities. This is central to our goal of ensuring that our respected traditional leaders and the people in these communities are the primary beneficiaries of a well-functioning integrated aluminium industry,” he stated.
The outgoing CEO, Mr Michael Ansah, expressed appreciation to GIADEC staff for their support during his tenure and voiced confidence in Mr Twumasi Ankrah’s ability to lead the corporation successfully.
“In the past few years, we have laid a strong foundation for Ghana’s integrated aluminium industry. With the collective efforts of our team, we have made progress, including selecting strategic partners for IAI projects,” Mr Ansah said.
He urged GIADEC staff to give their full support to the new CEO and contribute to advancing the corporation’s mandate of developing and promoting an integrated aluminium industry in Ghana.
