NGO launches campaign to support vulnerable mothers
A non-governmental organisation (NGO), Hope In Action Foundation, has launched the second phase of an initiative aimed at providing vital resources and support to mothers, particularly those living with disabilities.
The initiative, dubbed: “Mother Care Campaign”, will focus on improving the health and well-being of underprivileged and vulnerable mothers by offering comprehensive health screenings, including prenatal, postnatal and general health check-ups.

Alongside these services, the initiative will provide donations of essential care items such as nutritious food, hygiene products, baby supplies and maternal health kits.
The campaign aims to promote maternal health awareness, offer support for early detection of health issues and ease the financial burden on mothers by ensuring they have access to necessities for themselves and their children.
Targeted support
The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the organisation, Haja Kabba, said their mission was to empower mothers with proper healthcare and opportunities to better provide for their children.
“The choice of the Afuaman community was strategic, as it has a significant population of mothers facing challenges, including the prevalence of disabilities. Community chiefs highlighted the need for targeted support, particularly for mothers struggling to access basic amenities,” she said.
Mrs Kabba also said the campaign was not only focusing on immediate assistance but long-term solutions as well.
“This campaign exercise costs about $230,000 approximately and we are looking forward to serving 200 women. Despite the positive impact of the campaign, challenges remain. Engaging community leaders and overcoming language barriers have posed difficulties. Looking forward, the foundation is exploring opportunities to expand its reach into other rural areas, with plans still in development,” she explained.

A beneficiary of the foundation, Priscilla Naa-Amarley, expressed her gratitude to the Hope In Action Foundation for considering helping the community.
“I went through the health screening and they did well to check my BP, malaria test and also dental test. Which after that they gave me rice, yam, Indomie, tomatoes and gari. I am grateful for this opportunity,” she said.
