NIB supports Farmers Day celebration

The National Investment Bank (NIB) has presented a cheque for GH¢10,000 in support of this year’s National Farmers Day celebration, slated for December 6, 2013 at the Sogakofe Senior High School in the Volta Region.

The donation, which is the first for this year, is to help with preparations towards the celebration, which is the 29th edition. This year’s event will be on the theme: “Reducing Post-Harvest Losses for Sustainable Food Security”.

Mr Jerry N. Halm, Head of the Marketing and Corporate Affairs Department of the NIB, who handed over the cheque at a brief ceremony in Accra yesterday, said the amount was to facilitate preparation for the celebration.

He said the bank had committed itself to contributing every year to the welfare of farmers, whose contribution to national development was immense.

Mr Halm said for meaningful growth to be achieved, the well-being of farmers should be given top priority, adding that “farmers need to be motivated and supported to enable them to increase their production”.

A deputy minister of Agriculture, Dr Ahmed Yakubu Alhassan, who received the cheque on behalf of the ministry, said the government was doing its best to invest more in the agricultural sector, since the agric sector played a vital role in national development.

He thanked the bank for its support and assured it that the contribution would be used for the intended purpose, adding that the government recognised NIB’s support towards the success of Farmers Day  celebrations.

He appealed to other corporate bodies to emulate the example of the bank.
