Nii Lantey Vanderpuye meets management of Princess Marie Louise Children’s Hospital

The Member of Parliament for Odododiodio, Nii Lantey Vanderpuye has met the management of the Princess Marie Louise Children’s Hospital over alleged chaos at the hospital.

An Accra based radio station Joy FM, last Friday, April 6, reported that there was chaos at Accra’s major children’s healthcare facility as angry parents accuse the hospital of neglect.

According to the report, frustrated mothers said the hospital was unnecessarily delaying in attending to their sick children, adding that they are often compelled to spend the whole day at the hospital in a desperate wait for a doctor to attend to their sick children.

Explaining the situation on the ground to the MP on Tuesday, the medical superintendent at the hospital, Dr Isaac Aban said the hospital was understaffed.

He said the facility was under enormous pressure because of the limited staff, considering the number of children that need attention.

According to him, the hospital has only four medical doctors.

“Is not good enough because we see close to about 200 children every day and out of this staff strength, we have four permanent Doctors. Three of them are specialists and only one medical officer and six physician assistants,” Dr Aban disclosed.

He, therefore, appealed to the Ghana Health Service (GHS) to increase the staff strength at the hospital.

He also disclosed that the roof of the administrative block of the hospital was leaking; hence doctors are unable to work when it rains.

Mr Vanderpuye gave the assurance that he will do everything within his power to ensure that the challenges of the hospital are solved.

He said as a first step he will use the NHIS fund to re-roof the administration block of the hospital.

He also announced plans to provide accommodation to newly qualified doctors who will come for housemanship at the hospital.

He noted that the hospital was strategically positioned to serve patients in Accra and its environs hence all must be done to ensure that it functions properly.
