NSMQ: APAM sends ADISCO home, SWESCO in quarter finals

The National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ) is heating up with celebrations, shocks and heartbreaks.

In Monday's quizzes leading to the quarter finalists' bookings, Apam Senior High School snatched victory from of Adisadel College in an intense one-eighth contest to secure a place in the quarter-final stage with 40 points.

Adisadel College, despite being the Central Regional Champions, lost their grip, ending the contest with 36 points while Osei Kyeretwie SHS, finished with 23 points, losing their seeded status to Apam SHS.

The competition between Apam SHS, Adisadel College, and Osei Kyeretwie SHS was marked by high levels of confidence and certainty on the "Zebra boys", the Adisadel college lads.

The supporters added excitement to the already tensed atmosphere.

Indeed, it was Adisadel College that took an early lead in the first round, round one bagging 16 points. 

Apam had 12 points while Osei Kyeretwie SHS had nine points.

Apam polled a remarkable 18 point close up after Adisadel's 19 points in the second round while Osei Kyeretwie SHS struggled with just five points.

In the final round Apam SHS worked with speed and alertness correctly answering two riddles to finish with 40 points.

Swedru Senior High School also shattered the hopes of the Ashanti Regional Champions, Kumasi High School to book their place in the quarter final stage.

In a keen contest, Swesco finished with 37 points, two points ahead of Kumasi High School who had 35 points with Tepa Senior High coming third with 33 points.

Other contests

In other contests Presbyterian Boys’ Secondary School had 60 points to book a place in the quarter finals beating Kofi Agyei SHTS who 24 points and Ghana SHS, Tamale, 15 points.

Prempeh College also registered its place in the quarter finals with 64 points miles ahead of Awudome Senior High School who had 33 and Kadjebi-Asato Senior High School, 20 points. 

St. James Seminary also registered their seat in the quarter finals with 50 points ahead of Armed Forces SHTS who had 38 points with Tsito SHTS bagging 32 points

Pope John SHS and Minor Seminary also won its contest though with comparatively lower point finishing with 17 points with St. Mary's Boys' School and Akumfi Ameyaw SHTS following with 16 points and three points respectively.

Meanwhile Mfantsiman Girls' SHS crashed out of the competition with 27 points coming behind Anlo SHS 31 and Mpraeso 35 points giving way to Mpraeso to book its seat in the quarter finals
