Nyaho Clinic inaugurates two new units

The Nyaho Medical Centre (NMC), a private multi-specialist hospital, has inaugurated an ultra-modern Mother and Child Unit at its Airport branch.

Additionally, the centre has also inaugurated a five-station Adult Intensive Care Unit (ICU) to provide continuous care for persons under critical health conditions.

At a ceremony to inaugurate the two facilities, the Managing Director of the centre, Dr Elikem Tamaklo, said the NMC Unit comprised of a six-station Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) designed to provide intensive medical care to premature or newborn infants and a seven-bed Maternity Unit designed for the comfort and wellbeing of expectant mothers and their families.

He said the launch of the state-of-the-art five-station Adult Intensive Care Unit (ICU) was to provide continuous care for persons in critical health conditions and bridge the significant gap in critical care support in the country.

Critical care support

He said the centre initiated the two projects at the cost of GH¢4.5 million as part of its mission to transform the lives of patients and their families, by exceeding the expectation in health care and inspiring hope for a better Africa.

“So many patients don’t have critical support in the country. We want to make sure that when the patients are in need they have a place to go and also survive,” he added.

Power supply

Dr Tamaklo also noted that all critical care services at the centre, including the existing theatre and wards, had been powered by a solar energy system to help the facility to operate without interruption.

Solar power, according to him, would offer consistent and uninterrupted power supply to the theatres and wards with the back-up of the national grid and a standby generator.

“If you are having a surgery, the last thing you wish for is for the light to go off, so we want to make sure that our patients feel safe and secure with no interruption of power in the course of any treatment,” Dr Tamaklo noted.

He commended the project sponsors for their tremendous support, adding that “through their strategic partnership with our stakeholders, the Mother and Child Unit and the ICU were furnished and equipped with the most comprehensive medical equipment to improve the quality of life of Ghanaians and expatriates alike”.

Minister of Health

The Minister of Health, Mr Kwaku Agyeman-Manu, in a speech read on his behalf, commended the management of the Nyaho Medical Centre for initiating the project to deliver quality health care in the country.

“I am happy you are bridging the significant gap in critical care support in the country with a state-of-the-art five-station Adult ICU and a Mother and Child Unit,” he said.

The sector minister expressed his appreciation to the NMC’s investment in the solar system to complement the power from the national grid and added that that shinning example was worth emulating by other health providers within the sector.

“We encourage other private health facilities to also do same to complement the government’s efforts in delivering quality health care in the country,” the minister added.
