Dubbed: “Touching the hearts of society through empowerment of widows and the aged; the role of Hon. Humu Dilley Saeed,” the initiative is aimed at supporting about 500 widows and aged persons from Ofankor and its environs, particularly with their economic and social needs.

Commencement of project

For starters, Ms Saeed said some of the widows and aged persons would receive undisclosed quantities of rice from a local firm, Tobinco Pharmaceutical Company (TPC), while Global Alliance was ready to supply them with improved cook stoves on credit.

She also said: “The beneficiaries will receive some products on credit from supporting organisations, so they can start with petty trading.”

Commendation

For his part, the Chief of Ofankor, Nii Kortey Boi, commended the assembly member for the initiative, urging other stakeholders to support her, to sustain the programme.

“At this time, the government alone cannot shoulder all our needs, therefore, I entreat other benevolent institutions to support the community in its development programmes,” he said.

Present at the ceremony last Saturday was the wife of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) 2016 running mate, Hajia Samira Bawumia, and the Member of Parliament for Trobo, Mr Moses Anim, who in separate remarks expressed appreciation to Ms Saeed for her initiative.
