‘Pastors should not enrich themselves at expense of poor’
A Former Moderator of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Very Rev. Dr Sam Prempeh, has stated that it was unacceptable and unbiblical for pastors of the gospel to enrich themselves at the expense of the poor who are seeking solace in the word of God.

He said pastors must be seen and known for living sacrificial lives like Christ but not to rush to become rich overnight, live in mansions, drive four-by-four vehicles and, in some cases, be protected by body guards, while the people wallowed in poverty, misery and hopelessness .
Rev. Prempeh was preaching during the ordination of 13 ministerial probationers of Group Four - 2014 at the Christ Congregation Presbyterian Church at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in Kumasi.
The 13, who were ordained, were posted to Asante Akyem, Kwahu and Sekyere Presbyteries to serve as Probationers for two years after they had gone through the normal schooling.
The former Moderator advised pastors, especially the newly ordained ones to live Christ-like lives, and exhibit the everlasting love of God, the gift of the Holy Spirit and jealously guard themselves to the glory of God.
He said times were getting hard, especially for the poor and “as servants of God you must endeavour to find solutions to the problems of your members, but not to exploit the poor who are already suffering”.
Rev. Prempeh reminded Christians and leaders of Presbyterian churches that they should not be swayed by the teachings and lifestyles of others who claim to be Christians.
“As Christians we don’t need a new agenda by following what others are doing,” he advised, and urged the pastors to abide by the scriptures and execute their call to bring life to Christ and also be instruments of peace.
