He said the absence of communal spirit in  villages and towns had contributed to the low level of development throughout the country.

Mr Baidoo made the appeal when he addressed basic school pupils in Ashaiman during the beginning of the annual tree-planting exercise by basic schools in the municipality.

The programme,  which was on the theme, “Restoring the Environment to its Original State: Our Responsibility” was Organised by the Ghana National Scholarship Beneficiaries Association (GNASBA).

Highlights of the programme was the presentation of 1,000 seedlings, 60 litter bins and 60 footballs by Fan Milk Limited to 20 selected schools in the municipality.

Mr Baidoo expressed gratitude to Fan Milk Limited and GNASBA for the continuous effort at supporting the school health and agricultural programmes over the past 20 years and noted that if their efforts were supported in the communities, there would be tremendous improvement in the area of environmental cleanliness and protection.

He expressed concern over the poor environmental status of some school compounds and communities and urged the pupils to lead the crusade to change people’s attitude towards the environment.

Presenting the package, the Regional Sales Manager of Fan Milk, Mr Sydney Buaako, said the collaboration with GNASBA to execute the school environmental sanitation education campaign had existed over the past 20 years because of GNASBA’s vision of promotion of  good health and maintenance of the environment.

He also appealed to the youth to properly cater for the Ghanaian heritage with all seriousness and give it  the respect it deserved since it was an inheritance from our forefathers.

He commended the teachers for their hard work and asked them to help the schoolchildren to gsrow the trees.

Madam Stephanie Mosore, the Deputy Director in charge of Monitoring and Supervision at the Ghana Education Service, commended Fan Milk Limited, the Ashaiman Municipal Assembly and GNASBA for the joint effort to help promote the school health and agricultural programme.
