Patholab holds health screening for Adabraka residents
Patholab Solutions Medical Laboratory (PSML) has organised a health screening exercise for residents of Adabraka in Accra to mark its 25th anniversary celebration.
Last Monday’s health screening, which aimed to raise awareness and educate patrons on common lifestyle-related conditions, provided participants with essential health checks.
The event was attended by over 100 residents who screened for various health conditions, including cholesterol to assess the risk of heart disease; fasting blood sugar to diagnose diabetes or prediabetes; and hypertension to detect high blood pressure, which are often referred to as silent killers.
Patrons were also checked for their body mass indexes (BMI), which helps assess obesity risk.
In an interview, the Founder and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of PSML, Elizabeth-Irene Baitie, emphasised the importance of regular health check-ups, saying they are vital for preventing and managing lifestyle-related conditions.
“It is very important to know one's numbers, including blood pressure, blood sugar and cholesterol levels, to make informed decisions about one's health,” she said.
Mrs Baitie said lifestyle-related conditions, such as heart disease, stroke, and diabetes, are now widespread in the country due to changes in diet and lifestyle.
She advised the public to adopt healthy habits, including eating wholesome food, engaging in regular exercise, and managing stress.
The CEO of PSML and author emphasised that early detection and prevention are essential to avoiding health disasters.
She encouraged everyone to prioritise their health by scheduling regular check-ups and adopting healthy lifestyle habits.
“Early detection makes a difference.
One of the most important and basic health factors I will encourage everyone to check is your blood pressure.
Blood pressure, hypertension, is called the silent killer for good reason.
“It often gives very little warning.
Yet, all of us know somebody who had a sudden stroke, had a sudden heart attack, collapsed suddenly, had a hypertensive crisis because they didn't know,” Mrs Baitie stated.
Patholab's plans

The CEO of PSML stated that Patholab's initiative was part of its wider mission to promote optimal health through prompt and precise medical laboratory services.
