POLAS Tema region empowers members to be fit

The Tema Regional Police Ladies Association (POLAS) embarked on a six-kilometre fitness health walk last Saturday as part of their annual POLAS week celebration.

The walk began from the tollbooth at Ayi Mensah and ended at the Peduase Lodge.

It was to reflect the critical role women played in the affairs of the Ghana Police Service.

It was also aimed at bringing the women in the police service in the Tema region together to train physically and prepare themselves for the upcoming elections this year.

The walk was on the theme: “Women Empowerment, POLAS Arise”.

The walk

After brief aerobic exercises that ended at 7 a.m, members of POLAS from all 30 police stations in the Tema Region began the walk up the Akuapem scarp.

The week-long celebration began last Friday with a float through various communities in the Tema region of the police service to educate the public on police duties and security safety tips.

There were lectures and seminars on safety to prepare POLAS for this year’s general election.

The annual week celebration will be climaxed with a ball.

Empowerment

After the walk, the Regional President of POLAS, Chief Superintendent Susana Adjei, expressed her gratitude to the members of the association for participating in the walk.

She said the hill from Ayi Mensah to Peduase had, over the years, been a high ground for fitness and, therefore, a strategic location to assemble to exercise.

She encouraged young police women to be smart in their outlook.

Supt Adjei stated that the week-long activities were to suit the service’s dynamic trends, adding that the association remained committed to empowering its members.

“At POLAS, we believe in team work and empowerment as one of our core values,” she said.

She added that the health and fitness exercises by POLAS would continue throughout the first quarter of the year and that “we plan to go on a walk every two weeks, even if it will not be on the Aburi hills”.
