Police alert public to fake road worthy certificates
The Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service has alerted the public to fake road worthy certificates in the system.

Since the beginning of this year the Accra Central Division of the MTTD has arrested 91 commercial vehicle drivers with the fake road worthy certificate displayed on their cars.
The fake road worthy certificates were exposed by electronic detection gadgets introduced by the Driver Vehicle and Licensing Authority (DVLA).
The Accra Central MTTD Commander, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), Mr Anderson Fosu Ackaah, gave the alert at the 2014 West African Security Services Association (WASSA) end of year celebration for personnel of the command.
Detection
He said by means of a special electronic device, personnel of the department detected the fake road worthy certificates in a random scanning of the stickers on commercial vehicles during road traffic controls and unannounced operations.
He, therefore, urged the motoring public to be cautious as some unscrupulous people were issuing fake road worthy certificates in the name of the DVLA.
To promote traffic safety, Mr Ackah called on personnel of the MTTD to be polite to the public when enforcing traffic regulations.
In an address, the Director-General of the MTTD, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP), Mr Angwubutoge Awuni, commended the personnel of the MTTD for their hard work over the years.

Unregistered vehicles
On the use of unregistered cars, Mr Awuni expressed concern about the increasing use of such cars for weddings, funerals, parties and for conveying schoolchildren.
“Unregistered vehicles are not to be used for conveying a number of persons but we see people using such vehicles against the law. As police officers we must bring the perpetrators to book,” he urged.
