Police grab water pump, generator thief

A trader who allegedly stole a water pump and a generator from a shop at Taifa Burkina and tried to sell it to a different branch of the same shop at Timber Market in Accra has been arrested.

The 32-year-old man, identified as Daniel Okoe Sosu, allegedly stole the equipment from a shop which deals in machines at Taifa Burkina.

But unknown to him, he tried to sell the items to the owner of the same shop he stole the items from at the Timber Market.

Briefing journalists, the Kwabenya District Commander,  Mrs Victoria Yamoah, said at about 8:30 a.m. on October 30, 2014, the suspect, who lives at Labadi, went to a shop at Taifa Burkina  to  buy a generator and a water pump.

The arrest

 While the shop attendant was attending to another customer,the suspect packed the items worth GH¢2,000 into his car. 

She said the shop attendant took the registration number of the Nissan Datson car and sent the registration number GR 4564-Q and other details to her employer through a text message.

About 1:30 p.m. on the same day, the commander said, the suspect arrived at the Timber Market branch of the same shop with the water pump to sell. 

The owner of the shop, she said, recognised the suspect with the car registration number and the other details given to him by the shop attendant. 

The owner then reported the case to the police, leading to the arrest of the suspect. Subsequently, the generator was retrieved from the house of the suspect at La.

Upon interrogation, the Kwabenya Commander said,  the suspect admitted  the crime and claimed his wife was even aware he was a thief.
