Police impound 204 bags of Indian hemp at Apesika

Two hundred and four bags of dried leaves, suspected to be Indian hemp, have been impounded by the police  at Apesika in the Kwahu East District in the Eastern Region.

In a dawn swoop, the Nkawkaw police also arrested 17 people, including five females, for allegedly possessing the dried leaves.

The suspects attempted to bribe the police but after receiving the money, they (the police) conveyed the dried leaves in two trucks to the Nkawkaw Police Station.

Swoop

The Nkawkaw Divisional Commander of the Ghana Police Service, Chief Superintendent of Police, Mr James Sarfo Peprah, said the police carried out the swoop after they had carefully examined intelligence reports on the activities of the suspects in the area.

He said one astonishing revelation that came out was that the dried leaves were found in every house that was searched by the police.

Mr Peprah said the leaves would be conveyed to Accra for a forensic test as part of the investigations before the suspects would be arraigned.

Meanwhile, the suspects are being screened by the police and those found culpable would be put before court.
