The National Convention of the Bible Study and Prayer Group (BSPG) of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana has taken place in Accra, with a call on members and the public to strive to make a positive impact in the society.
The four-day event, which coincided with the Golden Jubilee of the BSPG, brought together over 6,000 Christians from across the country. It was held on the theme: “Anointing of the Holy Spirit to Celebrate Christ.”
Participants were clad in white and yellow T-shirts with the inscription “Pray Without Ceasing,” and the gathering was electrified by a spirit-filled opening session led by the Minister in charge of the Grace Congregation at Akuapem Akropong, Dr Kwasi Abboah-Offei.
Serve needs of society
Dr Abboah-Offei called on the gathering not to only seek their spiritual emancipation and growth, but to also prioritise the physical needs of the communities they found themselves in.
“Christianity should not only be confined to the chapel. It must impact on the society and the people you interact with. In times like this, when there is corruption all over, you must go and shed the light for the community. If there is filth, the believer must lead the way to clean it and change the negatives in the society,” he said.
The Convener of the Golden Jubilee Planning Committee, Mr Philip Richard Addai, explained that activities such as a health talk, prayer for renewal of relationship and commitment to God, Bible studies and evangelism had been lined up for the celebration.
“We will offer prayers for the nation on a wide range of issues to ask for prosperity, improved security and others in a non-partisan manner,” he said.
Speaking to the Daily Graphic shortly after the close of the events for the morning session, the National President of the BSPG, Mr Michael Opoku-Mintah, said it was incumbent on the congregation to remain disciplined and pray for the country to have successful elections.
