The new presbytery, which was carved out of the Ga Presbytery, is the 21st presbytery to be erected by the PCG.

It comprises 11 districts severed out of the 35 districts that made up the Ga Presbytery and covers all PCG churches lying to the west of the Main Accra–Nsawam road and heading towards Kasoa in the Central Region.

The 11 districts include, Abeka, Adabraka official Town, Apenkwa, Aplaku, Dansoman, Gbawe, Kaneshie, Kwashieman, Latebiokorshie, New Achimota and North Kaneshie.

The leadership of the PCG explained that the motive for carving out the new presbytery was to facilitate evangelism and to make for efficiency and effectiveness in the administration of the church in the area.

The new presbytery has Rev. Daniel Kwasi Amoako Nyarko as its first Chairperson with Rev. Philip Nii Annan-Nai and Mrs Sarah Mildred Tsuianaa Addo as the presbytery clerk and lay representative on the General Assembly Council, respectively.

Forgiveness

Speaking at the erection service, the Moderator of the General Assembly of the PCG, Rt Rev. Prof. Emmanuel Martey, urged the new presbytery “to spread the gospel and to expand the kingdom of God”.

Concerning the theme for the erection, which was “forgive because you have been forgiven”, Rt Rev. Martey said the greatest gift that the Lord gave was forgiveness of sin.

He said it was, therefore, important that humanity accepted that gift and that failure to accept it would mean an automatic condemnation to hell.

“Forgive others, repent of your sins and put your trust in God. One can get the grace of God if one wills. The choice is yours,” said the moderator to the congregation.

He urged the congregation to strive to work seriously to bring to the fold all those on the periphery in order to build and expand the kingdom of God.

“Jesus does not like dead churches, but innovative and active churches,” he said.

Dignitaries

The service, which was spiced with hymns and praises, was attended by dignitaries including the General Secretary of the Ghana Pentecostal Council, Rev. Dr Kwabena Opuni-Frimpong, Rev. Erasmus Odonkor, General Secretary of the Bible Society of Ghana, and a number of both retired and practising ministers of the church and other sister churches.

Members of the congregation, who sported white polo shirts with the inscription ‘erection of Ga West Presbytery” at the back, danced and praised God obviously for making the creation of the new presbytery, which had taken more than 32 years, to come to fruition.

Later, the Ga Presbytery, which served as a mother chuch of the new presbytery, presented keys to a Hundai Santafe four wheel drive,  a cheque for GH¢30,000 and a Bible to the leadership of the new presbytery to support and accelerate the development of the Ga West presbytery.
