President Akufo-Addo joins Asantehene for one-week memorial of 'Okumkɔm' Akwasi Agyeman

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo was among the dignitaries who joined the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi on Monday to mark the one-week memorial of the passing of 'Okumkɔm' Nana Akwasi Agyeman, a former Mayor of the Kumasi.

Also known as 'Okumkɔm', Nana Akwasi who was a brother of Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II served as Kumasi Mayor for over 20 years, under various governments of the NRC, SMC I and II, PNP and (P) NDC regimes.

The one-week memorial attracted various dignitaries to the Manhyia Palace where Otumfuo Osei Tutu II sat in state at ‘Bogyawe’ to receive those who had come to mourn with him.

Nana Akwasi Agyeman died Tuesday, January 14, 2020, in Kumasi after an illness.

He was 86-years-old.

The Asantehene is yet to set a date for the final funeral rites.

Tuesday’s memorial was not an occasion for speeches as the Asantehene joined in the singing of war songs to express the sorrowful mood following the demise of his brother, reports Graphic Online's Emmanuel Baah.

Solemnly, the dignitaries took turns to exchange pleasantries with the Asantehene.
